Preparing Your Quilt

It's Time For Quilting!

You’ve spent so much time making your quilt top and now, you’re so close to those final stitches. Here’s how to get your quilt top ready for quilting.

Preparing Your Quilt Top

~Please make sure that your quilt top is well pressed and all seams are as flat as possible.

~ Trim all loose or hanging threads. Take notice of any dark threads falling onto lighter fabric. This will show through after the quilting is finished.

~ Ensure that your borders are attached without excess fabric as this will prevent ripples and waves when laying flat. That being said, also ensure that there is no excess fullness in the middle of the quilt due to borders that are too short. Quilting does not correct this issue if it’s anything more than minor. I will always do my best but I can’t promise that I will be able to get all excess fullness out of your quilt top.

Backing Fabric

~If you are piecing the backing, it is best to trim off the one selvedge edge that you are sewing (leaving the other selvedge edge still attached) and use a half inch seam allowance. By leaving the other selvedge edge on, it helps to keep the fabric from stretching as I advance the quilt on my frame.

~ The backing should be at least 6 inches larger in both length and width.

~ Your backing fabric must be squared up so that I can use the straight edge to attach to my leaders.

~Backing fabric must be pressed. I will give it a light pressing to get the fold marks out before starting. You will have to remove the factory folds or other deep set wrinkles before I receive it.

Batting

~ If you provide your own batting, please avoid 100% polyester.

~The batting should be at least 4 inches larger in width and length than the quilt top.

*Please do not baste your layers together.

Shipping

~ I recommend that you place your quilt inside of a plastic bag to prevent any moisture from reaching your fabric.

~ Remember to clearly identify your quilt with your name and contact information.

~ It is a good idea to take several photographs of your quilt for identification purposes.
